I rarely put up a post unless I know for sure it is idiot-proof. For quite a while many Kenyan’s who were ‘locked’ into their first data account because of their hardware’s locking. Nairumours tell me that Zain will be launching 3G first-quater this year and Orange is also testing GSM 3G, note:not 3G+. The very first Safaricom and Zain huawei_e220 (the unbranded ones on the left) were fortunately not locked. However, once they were branded you couldn’t use any other sim-card with it. I came across a hack for those (e220′s) here(pdf).

Now this part is the main reason for this post. The new modems provide by Safaricom and Zain are the e160 and e160g.
- For these, you will only require to get the IMEI Number of the modem and the E220 Unlocker from the link above.
- Next visit the site www.unlockmymodem.com and register then login.
- Create a new post on the Unlock Modem Forum and post your IMEI Number, Facebook Profile Name and Twitter Profile.

- After posting these you need to become a fan of UnlockMyModem on facebook and follow unlockmymodem on twitter.
- You are almost done right now. Just wait for them to reply with your unlock code and now use your e220 unlocker.
- Plugin your modem on a Windows PC (preferably XP), close the Saf/Zain Connect Dialogue and open the unlocker. – Paste the unlock code you got from unlockmymodem.com into the unlocker and you should be done.
